I hear their voices
Like whispers by water
Figures suddenly passing
in the corner of my eye
Like the silence of forest
broken by river
they beg me to follow
horizon to sky
The wind in the wheat field
fades into the thunder
of cloven hooves running
by muddy cliff sides
Whisked away in the breeze
like the soil beneath me
Suddenly silence.
I open my eyes.
Their hands outstretched,reach to me
into the future
in photos, and records,
in stories they hide.
Near forgotten gravestones
the locusts are buzzing.
The frogs begin chirping.
The harsh pairie sighs.
I am still listening,
to ghosts of the fallen,
They wander the valley...
Manitoba is calling.
Like whispers by water
Figures suddenly passing
in the corner of my eye
Like the silence of forest
broken by river
they beg me to follow
horizon to sky
The wind in the wheat field
fades into the thunder
of cloven hooves running
by muddy cliff sides
Whisked away in the breeze
like the soil beneath me
Suddenly silence.
I open my eyes.
Their hands outstretched,reach to me
into the future
in photos, and records,
in stories they hide.
Near forgotten gravestones
the locusts are buzzing.
The frogs begin chirping.
The harsh pairie sighs.
I am still listening,
to ghosts of the fallen,
They wander the valley...
Manitoba is calling.
