Ship Wreck

Standing on a ship, I look across the waves
I am awed by the vastness of the sea
Awake in the adventures that lie ahead
their depth reposed in front of me

You put your arm around me
although warm, your words were not
"This ship will sink" you say
"Suppose we hit a glacier rock"

I once heard a song about a sailor
who died at sea
The song taught me that wherever you are
there heartbreak will be
He left his lover waiting
Safe Upon the Shore
But her heart was broken
despite her safe harbor
What I learned from this
is that you should never be afraid
No matter where you stand
You hold the hand of fate

I imagine violent storms
with towering black waves
Thick fog blanketing an eerie calm
As we navigate watery graves
I imagine sun sets on still seas
and tropical silhouettes in view
I see Island chains and anchor chains
And giant whales blue

Now it feels I misjudged your spirit
A Pirate seeking a treasure, A Captain at his helm
A partner in adventure
To travel beyond this realm
Your words are like a salty sting
A disappointment to my heart
I should have guessed the tides would change
And tear this ship apart
